Ashlyn and Lady Gaga Share a birthday!

And while I celebrated here in Tamworth over the weekend, Lady Gaga (who I might add is two years older than me!), celebrated in Brisbane.

During her concert on the big B-Day, her 'people' wheeled out a huge birthday cake and everyone in the audience got to take a peice home!

Which got me to thinking - here at the radio station we bring in a little cake or something yummy to celebrate with our workmates. Last month JB brought in profiteroles! Yum! So perhaps that means we are about on par for the giving of delicious baked goods then?

What else did Lady Gaga do? Well it's something I didn't do!

Do Oasis, Really, Have The Best British Album Of The Last 30 Years?

Britain's music industry has always been a scene full of influences and cultural waves. From the Beatles, to Sex Pistols Punk, New Wave to the 90s Manchester and Brit Pop/Indie scene, English music has always been a topic that is much discussed probably more researched then, say, the American music scene.

That's why I was very interested to see what the 'Brit' Awards this year had the say about awarding the Best British Album Of The Last 30 Years. No matter what the theme is, these 'best of all time' lists always produce much debate and divide music lovers the world over. You can't please everyone. And to try and say 'one British Album is better then all others of the last 30 years' was going to produce more debate then usual. The British music scene of the last 30 years has had some big acts.

The list of possible winners was pretty contemporary.. probably more to do with the 'youngins' that watch the Brit Awards. The nominations included Phil Collins, Travis, Duffy, Coldplay, Oasis, Keane, Sade, The Verve, Dido and Dire Straits. Once again, a pretty contemporary list.

The winner was Oasis, for their album Whats The Story Morning Glory. When you compare the sales for that album over the other nominations, it wins by a mile (or kilometer, seeing as we're talking Britain). Maybe because I'm not British, I don't understand what all the fuss is about. I just thought there should have been some other British Bands nominated - even if Oasis still won the bloomin' thing.

What is deemed your best British album of the last 30 years? Who do you think should have won it? And who were you happy *NOT* to have seen in the list. Because I guess, the Spice Girls could have won it...

John Mayer Racist?

In a particularly crappy interview with Playboy Magazone, John Mayer has managed to offend millions with these very confusing comments:

MAYER: It’s like I come on very strong. I am a very…I’m just very. V-E-R-Y. And if you can’t handle very, then I’m a douche bag. But I think the world needs a little very. That’s why black people love me.

PLAYBOY: Because you’re very?

MAYER: Someone asked me the other day, “What does it feel like now to have a hood pass?” And by the way, it’s sort of a contradiction in terms, because if you really had a hood pass, you could call it a n****r pass. Why are you pulling a punch and calling it a hood pass if you really have a hood pass? But I said, “I can’t really have a hood pass. I’ve never walked into a restaurant, asked for a table and been told, ‘We’re full.’"

PLAYBOY: It is true; a lot of rappers love you. You recorded with Common and Kanye West, played live with Jay-Z.

MAYER: What is being black? It’s making the most of your life, not taking a single moment for granted. Taking something that’s seen as a struggle and making it work for you, or you’ll die inside. Not to say that my struggle is like the collective struggle of black America. But maybe my struggle is similar to one black dude’s.

PLAYBOY: Do black women throw themselves at you?

MAYER: I don’t think I open myself to it. My d*** is sort of like a white supremacist. I’ve got a Benetton heart and a David Duke c***. I’m going to start dating separately from my d***.


Mhmmm. Good work John Mayer, but I think you just lost your "hood pass".
